Lactic Acid
A type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), it serves as a gentle exfoliant by loosening the bonds between dead skin cells, unveiling a brighter and rejuvenated complexion. Its efficacy is optimised within a pH range of 3-4 and concentrations of 5-12%. While effectively exfoliating, lactic acid maintains skin hydration, preventing dryness. It aids by addressing hyperpigmentation through the inhibition of melanin production. The outcome is a visibly brighter and more even skin tone.
Glycolic Acid
Standing out as one of the most potent alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) available, it functions similarly to other AHAs. It acts by breaking down the bonds of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface, revealing a brighter and healthier complexion underneath. This exfoliating action makes it a popular choice for addressing various skin concerns, including signs of ageing, uneven skin tone, and dry patches. Glycolic acid can effectively aid oily skin types by unclogging pores and addressing scarring resulting from acne-prone skin. It also serves as a humectant, attracting and retaining moisture in the skin. To maximise its effectiveness, glycolic acid performs best in formulations with a pH between 3-4.
Lecithin (Phospholipids)
Phospholipids are naturally present in the body, it boasts exceptional biocompatibility compared to other ingredients. Commonly referred to as lecithin in skincare. Their hygroscopic properties, drawing and retaining water molecules, result in targeted hydration, fostering a smoother complexion. Phospholipids facilitate the penetration of other beneficial ingredients, enhancing the efficacy of skincare formulations.
Sodium Hyaluronate
The salt form of hyaluronic acid, it is often used interchangeably with hyaluronic acid on cosmetic labels. While both share beneficial components, sodium hyaluronate stands out as a more stable and bioavailable ingredient. Its remarkable capacity to attract and retain moisture—up to 1000 times its weight—makes it a potent humectant. Combating dryness, it aids the skin in retaining moisture, ultimately smoothing the complexion and diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Its gentle nature allows for use on all skin types.
